Accessible Beaches

Accessible beaches. Sun and sea without limit...

Beaches which adhere to the Accessible Beach project and comply with its requirements are awarded the “Accessible Beach” flag.

Accessible Beaches Algarve 2009 / 2010 ("Praias acessíveis")

Beaches marked with "*" have amphibious chairs for people with reduced mobility to enjoy bathing in the sea.

Aljezur: Monte Clérigo*
Vila do Bispo: Salema
Lagos: Meia Praia*, Luz* , Porto de Mós*, Batata
Portimão: Vau*, Rocha, Alvor Nascente - Três Irmãos, Alvor*
Lagoa: Carvoeiro, Senhora da Rocha*
Silves: Armação de Pêra
Albufeira: Rocha Baixinha Nascente (east)*, Rocha Baixinha Poente (west), Barranco das Belharucas, Salgados*, Manuel Lourenço, Maria Luísa*, Galé Leste (east), Olhos de Água, Oura, Galé Oeste (west)
Loulé: Vilamoura*, Quarteira*, Vale de Lobo*, Garrão Poente
Faro: Faro-Mar*, Faro-ria* - Faro is an island beach and both the sea ("mar") and river ("ria") sides are accessible and have the amphibious chairs.
Olhão: Fuzeta Ria
Tavira: Barril
Castro Marim: Praia Verde, Alagoa / Altura*, Cabeço (Retur)* (located in the urbanization of Retur in the county of Castro Marim)
Vila Real de Santo António: Manta Rota*, Lota*, Monte Gordo*, Santo António*
Alcoutim: Pego Fundo* (river beach)

Facilities for disabled people include: wheelchair ramps, wheelchair runners, handrails, disabled toilets, reserved disabled parking, low bar counters, restaurant tables of specific height and obstacle free spaces.

An initiative of the National Commission of Co-ordination for the European Year of People with Disabilities (EYPD), the Accessible Beaches – Beaches for all Project has as its main objectives: to make Portuguese coastal and river beaches accessible to people with limited mobility, to educate the public on issues regarding disability and to provide the disabled and elderly in particular with lists of accessible beaches that are suitable destinations for safe and attractive holidays.
